Hemp boxes are printed paperboard boxes used to package hemp products, including hemp seed oil, soaps, balms, teas, foods and textile goods. They protect the product, identify the brand and carry the product information the seller needs to show. Many are made in kraft board, because its brown, fibrous look suits a plant-based product.

The name is sometimes also used for boxes made from hemp-fiber paper. This page covers paperboard boxes for hemp products.

Who Uses Hemp Boxes, and for What?

Hemp boxes are used by growers, processors, brands and retailers who sell finished hemp goods to the public. The range of products is wide, which is why there is no single standard box.

A skincare maker may need small tuck cartons for balms and salves and a sleeve or carton for bar soap, much like standard soap boxes. A food brand packing hemp hearts, protein powder or tea needs cartons that hold an inner bag, built along the lines of tea boxes. Oil producers need tall bottle cartons with inserts. Textile and accessory makers want flat two-piece boxes for hemp cloth, twine or wallets. Farms selling at markets often want one adaptable size that also works for gift bundles.

Kraft, White or Textured Stock?

Kraft paperboard is the most requested board for hemp packaging, though it is not always the right one. Kraft is unbleached, so it keeps the natural brown of the wood fiber, and it signals a simple, unfussy brand without a word of copy. Our kraft boxes page describes the board in more detail.

White SBS paperboard is the better choice when your design relies on accurate color, photography or a lot of small text. Where both matter, white board can be printed with a solid brown or green on selected panels, which keeps the natural mood and the sharp text.

For shipping, E-flute corrugated in kraft makes a sturdy mailer, and rigid chipboard wrapped in textured paper suits gift sets.

How Does Print Behave on Kraft Board?

Ink on kraft looks darker and warmer than the same ink on white board, because the brown surface shows through. Plan the design around that and it becomes an advantage.

Dark, saturated colors hold up best: black, deep green, navy, burgundy and dark brown all read clearly. Pale tints, yellows and light blues shift toward the board color and can disappear. White areas in your artwork will simply be bare kraft unless the design is changed, so a logo that depends on white needs rethinking. Photographs lose contrast, so line illustrations and bold type usually work better than images.

Check your proof with kraft in mind, small text in particular. Fibers in the board make fine serifs look rougher than they do on screen.

Box Styles That Suit Hemp Products

  • Tuck end cartons: the everyday choice for bottles, jars, tubes and bagged goods.
  • Sleeves: a printed band around a soap bar, a tin or a plain tray, using very little board.
  • Two-piece boxes: a base and lid for textiles, gift sets and sampler assortments.
  • Auto-lock bottom cartons: for heavier jars and glass bottles that would push through a tuck base.
  • Mailer boxes: corrugated, self-locking boxes for online orders and subscription parcels.
  • Window cartons: a die-cut opening that shows the product, left open or covered with clear PET window film.

Add a hang tab if the product will sit on a peg, or a counter tray if it sells near the register.

Finishing With Restraint

Natural-looking packaging is undone by heavy gloss, so choose finishes that keep the board’s character. An aqueous coating protects the print with little change to the surface. Embossing and debossing press a logo into the board with no ink at all, and on kraft the effect is quiet and tactile. A small area of foil stamping, in copper, gold or black, adds one point of contrast.

Matte lamination and soft-touch are available if the box needs more scuff protection, and gloss lamination or spot UV can be used on white board where a brighter look is wanted. Printing is CMYK and PMS, outside and inside.

How Do You Get the Size Right?

Measure the product in its final form, including the lid, cap or inner bag, and give the length, width and depth it needs inside the box. Bagged goods such as tea or hemp hearts should be measured filled and settled, since a full bag is thicker than an empty one suggests.

Bottles and jars travel better with a die-cut insert that keeps them centered. Inserts and dividers can be cut from kraft board so the inside of the box matches the outside.

What Goes on Which Panel?

Put the brand and product name on the front, the ingredients or materials and directions on the back, and company details, barcode and net quantity where your market expects to find them. Leave an unprinted spot for a batch or date stamp if your products carry one.

Requirements differ by product type and by market, so confirm your wording before artwork begins. You are responsible for making sure your labeling and any child-resistant packaging meet the regulations where you sell, and Boxify Now prints the content you approve.

Can Hemp Boxes Be Recycled?

Paper-based packaging is widely recyclable, and local rules vary. Kraft and SBS with no coating or an aqueous coating are the simplest to recycle. Film lamination, window film and large foil areas can complicate things in some programs, so leave them out if end-of-life is a priority for your customers. Boxes also ship flat where the style allows, which reduces the space they take up in transit and storage.

Packing Online Orders

A plain kraft mailer becomes a branded parcel with very little added. Printed tissue wrapping paper around the product, a one-color logo on the lid and a short message printed inside are usually enough. Keep the mailer close to the size of its contents so the product does not slide and no void fill is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are hemp boxes?

They are printed paperboard boxes for packaging hemp products such as oils, soaps, balms, teas, foods and textiles. Most are folding cartons in kraft or white board, cut to the product’s size and printed with the brand and product information.

Are your hemp boxes made from hemp fiber?

Our boxes are made from paperboard: kraft, SBS, corrugated or rigid chipboard. Kraft gives the brown, natural appearance most hemp brands want. If you are looking specifically for a hemp-fiber sheet, mention it in your quote request and we will tell you what is possible.

Is kraft or white board better for my design?

Choose kraft for simple, dark, bold artwork and a natural look. Choose white SBS when the design needs accurate brand colors, light tints, photographs or dense small print. If you are unsure, send the artwork and we will advise before you commit.

Why do colors look different on kraft?

Kraft is brown, and printing inks are partly transparent, so the board color shifts every ink printed on it. Dark shades stay strong, pale shades fade toward brown, and any white in the artwork appears as bare board.

Which box styles are available?

Tuck end cartons, sleeves, two-piece boxes, auto-lock bottom cartons, corrugated mailers and window cartons are all common for hemp products. Hang tabs and counter trays can be added for retail display. Every style is made to your dimensions.

Can I get inserts in kraft to match the box?

Yes. Custom inserts and dividers can be cut from kraft board so the interior matches the exterior. They hold bottles and jars centered, separate items in a gift set and stop glass from touching glass during shipping.

What finishes suit a natural look?

Aqueous coating, embossing, debossing and a small foil accent keep the feel of the board. Matte lamination and soft-touch add scuff protection if needed. Gloss lamination and spot UV are available too, and they suit white board better than kraft.

Can you print inside the box?

Yes, in CMYK or PMS. A single dark ink on the inside of a kraft mailer is a popular choice for a short message, care notes or a pattern, and it adds interest when the customer opens the parcel.

How many boxes do I have to order?

Minimums are low, so small farms, market sellers and new brands can order a sensible first run. Your quote shows the quantities offered for the style and size you choose.

How long will my order take?

The timeline is confirmed on your quote. It varies with the style, the finishes and the quantity, and production follows your approval of the proof, so a quick review on your side helps.

Is delivery free?

Yes, shipping is free, and your quote will confirm delivery details for your location. Folding cartons and mailers are sent flat where the style allows, so a large order arrives in compact bundles that are easy to store.

Do you send a proof?

Yes. You receive a digital proof and a 3D mockup before production. If you are printing on kraft, pay extra attention to light colors and fine text, since those are the elements most affected by the board.

What artwork format do you need?

A PDF, AI or EPS file at 300 DPI in CMYK. Vector logos and outlined fonts give the cleanest result, particularly on kraft, where soft edges are more noticeable. Free design support is available if your files need adjusting.

Can one box size work for several products?

Often, yes. A single carton or mailer size with a different insert or sleeve for each product keeps things simple for small producers. Tell us what you sell and we can suggest a size that covers the most items.

Are hemp boxes recyclable?

Paper-based packaging is widely recyclable, though local rules vary. Kraft and SBS with an aqueous coating are the most straightforward. Film lamination, window film and heavy foil coverage may be handled differently by some recycling programs.
